Our project for a new School Centre proposes the creation of a new urban centrality in the wider region of South Palermo. The project creates a new territorial reference by establishing a synergy between the school programme and the formation of a new landscape open to the community. This synergy understands the Innovative School Centre as an opportunity for a sustainable regeneration of the urban environment of the area. The natural environment that is established by the school becomes also the common denominator of the educational programme and the school life in general. The environmental concerns become the innovative aspect of the educational programme. The process of the growing landscape becomes an opportunity for engagement and learning for the school community. The School, its buildings and open spaces aim at an nZEB (nearly Zero Energy Building) standard, and this, more than less energy consumption and thermal comfort, also constitute the main educational directions for the children, their everyday references and develops their responsibility towards the environment. The design element that constitutes the backbone of the Centre is the nature walk that starts from the main street (Via Galletti) and ends up at the existing orchard garden at the back of the site, connecting the secondary school, the primary school and the kindergarten with the sports facilities, the common open-air spaces and the rest of the landscape. The growing and taking care of the plants in the nature walk becomes a responsibility of the school community. The outdoors nature also becomes part of the indoors, as it intrudes into the voids and gaps in the form of planted patios that constitute an important design element of the mass of the buildings.

…

POLO SCOLASTICO INNOVATIVO A PALERMO

Description The construction of the project Urban Park and Integrated Complex of Primary and Secondary School and Public Facilities in Romanina has been completed on 2012, the project was designed by Herman Hertzberger and Marco Scarpinato after winning the international competition 3 new schools in Rome. The integrated complex alternates spaces dedicated to study and for socializing, enhancing the continuity between the two and emphasizing the relationship between interior and outdoor spaces. The project defines a new urban centrality with facilities for the community including: gymnasium, auditorium, restaurant and creative laboratories integrated with the learning spaces. This means that the school will be open to the entire city and will be a place of encounter and exchange even in non-school hours. An urban park with a teaching garden and facilities for sport and playgrounds will be realized in the next phase of the project in order to integrate the complex in the green spaces open to the people of the neighborhood.

…

The Project for the New Integrated Complex within the Bologna Railway Station sets a new urban order that interacts with the various elements of the territory. It will represent a new  access to the city and the entire regional and metropolitan system.
Through the New Integrated Complex within the Bologna railway Station, the project aims to link two parts of the city separated by the the railroad’s cutting and will set the connections between two parts of the city that are historically separated: the old town and the Bolognina district.
The settlement of the entrance to the New Railway along the Bridge Matteotti allow to bind the architecture and the city.
The new urban configuration of Independenza Street is flanked, on the western edge, by the canalredevelopment of a section of the Navile canal: this new urban park makes possible the use of the area by pedestrians and cyclists, recovering the historical traces related to the use of the waterways that have characterized theoriginal relationship between the city and its territory.

…

MASTERPLAN DI SVILUPPO URBANO E NUOVA STAZIONE FERROVIARIA DI BOLOGNA

.

The core of the Nursery and Primary School is conceived as a new layer that overlaps the ancient Roman landscape and became part of this. We decided to preserve the olive grove as a memory with which children can play and, removing as few trees as possible, we build the school in the landscape.
The grid of the olive grove sets the building and defines the pace of the walls in brick. The east and west edges of the building are open to the outside and include new and old landscapes in the spaces of the school.
The learning spaces are shifted and moved along the regular grid and the building is characterized with a variable border between internal and external spaces. The spaces of the school allow to organize teaching moments in the relationship with nature.
To the east, the edge of the building is defined by a system of teaching gardens where is possible to plant fruit trees, flowers and small vegetable gardens teaching. This system is linked with the organization of the green path to the urban park Prato Smeraldo.
The building is full of light and air: the roof is like a three-dimensional fabric, with a design that seems the intertwining of the branches of trees through which filters the light. From the outside, the two schools are perceived as a continuous building, covered by a variable pitched roof that, like a soft blanket backed by dividing walls, let pour down the light from above, through windows facing the sky.

…

PRATO SMERALDO | SCUOLA PRIMARIA E DELL’INFANZIA A ROMA

.

The masterplan for the waterfront of Valencia defines a design approach that deals with the simultaneous presence of infrastructure, housing, historical buildings, public space and temporary uses. The master plan of the harbour is not a separate plan of the city but, rather, a tool that poses the urban design as a tool to integrate the rules of the land use and the flexibility of urban forms linked to differents flows and cross-modality.
The design relates to the different dimensions that characterize this context, taking in account the specificities of a place defined by a rural landscape characterized by the relationship between soil and water. Through a combination of curved design elements, the masterplan joins and sorts the different sizes and uses of the area.
The design of the dock fits in continuity with the urban design and interacts with the urban infrastructures of the new roads that connect the city to the sea. The space in front of the dock connects to the Avenida de France and joins with the new district of the PAI de Grao with buildings placed  in the urban park that stay in the end of the garden Linear Turia. The square facing the sea on which the existing Tinglados connects to the new Passenger Terminal and the park will be built on the eastern pier. So, all the elements of the site are involved in the urban scene and interact on the the new dock.

MASTERPLAN PER IL WATERFRONT DI VALENCIA AMERICA’S CUP

.

CULTURAL AND SPORT CENTRE IN ROME

Description

The site where will be built the cultural center “Città Alessandrina” is located is located along a road that joins the impressive remains of a Roman aqueduct and the Alessandrino Park. In the project of the cultural center and of the open spaces we chosen to interpret the site as the node that communicates with two different sizes: the size of the landscape to the north, towards Via dei Meli, and the urban size in south towards Via degli Olmi.
The new building, with its predominantly longitudinal system, it is as a node between the city and the park, a final element of an urban system that is easily accessible on foot, by bicycle or car. The original topography is maintained and the accesses to the cultural center are located, respectively, on north and south of the site.
Via dei Meli is a winding path through the garden, characterized by the presence of a pre-existing reeds system and of terraces with shrubs that joins the cycle path, a large water tank and a terraced that can be used for performances. This path through the landscape leads to a lower level of the center where are the spaces for recreational activities and for the physiotherapy; an additional access to the sport areas is on the above level, through a bridge that with a raised path on the channel joins to the bicycle path.

…

Descrizione
